November 30, 2009 (JUBA) – A senior member of the Leadership Council in the Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has visited Juba for a meeting with the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Dak, ST) Dr. Riek Gai Kok, the most senior Presidential Advisor to Sudan’s President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir, and former NCP Deputy Chairman for Southern Sector, came to the Southern Sudan’s capital this week and called for unity among the people of Southern Sudan.
Dr. Kok made the public remarks on Friday at the residence of the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, where he visited the house to see the dang of Ngundeng Bong which was brought back from England on May 16 this year after 80 years in exile.
He told a gathered crowd of people in the compound that the return of the historical dang, which he did not see since May 16, symbolized recovery of unity and power among the people of Southern Sudan.
Dr. Kok who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Jonglei state, Hussein Mar Nyuot, said he also came to travel to Jonglei state and visit his constituency in the state.
He was the former President of the Southern Sudan Coordinating Council which was dissolved upon formation of the Government of Southern Sudan in 2005 after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
He rarely visits Southern Sudan since 2005.
The Government of Southern Sudan’s Vice President and Deputy Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. Riek Machar, on his part echoed the call for unity and peaceful co-existence among the people of Southern Sudan.
